Can I get disability benefits for PTSD?

Yes, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) qualifies for disability benefits through government programs like the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Simply having a diagnosis is not enough. You must provide strong medical proof that your symptoms stop you from working or doing daily tasks.

Social Security Disability (SSA)

  • The SSA officially lists PTSD as condition to be evaluated under for trauma- and stressor-related disorders.

  • Medical Proof: You need records showing flashbacks, avoidance of reminders, mood changes, and high anxiety.
